Protecting Critical Data and Applications: How Northwest Administrators Established Reliable Disaster Recovery for Its Seattle Data Center
Client Story
Northwest Administrators Builds a Flexible Disaster Recovery Strategy with Wowrack
Overview
Northwest Administrators, Inc. (NWA) provides employee benefit plan administration and benefit claim processing services to clients throughout the Western United States. With its data and applications built and managed in-house, protecting critical systems and maintaining business continuity are key priorities for the organization.
NWA previously had no disaster recovery solution for its primary Seattle data center. Given the importance of its applications and the potential risks associated with operating in the region, the company needed a cost-effective and reliable way to maintain access to critical systems in the event of a disruption.
Wowrack worked with NWA to establish a disaster recovery environment that allows the company to replicate production servers based on established schedules, with select critical systems configured for real-time replication. The flexible configuration gives NWA the ability to recover individual servers, multiple systems, or the entire replicated environment as needed
Established a viable disaster recovery program for the primary Seattle data center
Replicates production servers based on established replication schedules
Enables real-time replication for select critical systems
Provides flexible recovery options for individual servers, multiple systems, or the entire replicated site
Challenges Faced
Northwest Administrators operates applications and manages data in-house, making the availability and protection of its systems particularly important. However, the company did not have a disaster recovery solution in place for its primary Seattle data center.
With the need to prepare for potential disruptions, NWA was looking for a solution that could provide reliable disaster recovery without creating unnecessary costs or complexity.
Solution Provided by Wowrack
Wowrack helped Northwest Administrators establish a disaster recovery environment designed around the company’s infrastructure and recovery requirements.
The solution allows NWA to replicate production servers according to established replication schedules. For select critical systems, the environment supports real-time replication to help maintain current copies of important workloads.
The flexibility of the configuration also allows NWA to choose how much of its environment needs to be recovered. Depending on the situation, the company can utilize a single replicated server, multiple servers, or the entire replicated site.
Outcomes and Benefits
Reliable Disaster Recovery
With its new disaster recovery environment, NWA has a viable way to replicate production systems and prepare for potential disruptions to its primary data center.
Flexible Recovery Options
NWA can use its replicated environment based on the needs of a particular situation. The company can recover a single server, multiple servers, or the entire replicated site as needed.
Support for Critical Systems
Select critical systems are configured for real-time replication, providing an additional layer of continuity for workloads where maintaining an up-to-date replica is important.
Improved Business Continuity
The disaster recovery program gives NWA a defined approach for maintaining access to its applications and data if its primary environment experiences a disruption.
